A Steelville man was surprised to uncover the top prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. William Wotipka describes himself as a regular player who has won prizes of $1,000 in the past, yet he was unprepared to see a $100,000 prize. He purchased a “$100,000 Fortune” Scratchers ticket at Town & Country Express, 43 Highway 8 East in Steelville, and scratched off the top prize in the store.
“I was scratching one off before that on a different game,” recalled Wotipka. “I won about $40 on that one, and I said, ‘Well, I’ll take one more.’”
It was a smart move for the retired security guard.
“When I turned it over,” he realized he had a big winner. “It was on the back; all of them.”
“$100,000 Fortune” is the third Missouri Lottery Scratchers game to feature play areas on the front and back on the ticket. It took him a minute to compose himself.
“I’m OK,” he said while claiming the ticket on May 19. “Just a little nervous.”
Wotipka said he might use the money to move closer to his daughters.
“I might move out to Texas where my daughters live,” he said. “They want me to.”
He’ll keep playing the Lottery in the meantime and encouraged others to do the same.
“I hope they win, too,” he declared.
“$100,000 Fortune” is a $5 game that officially began April 14. The game features seven top prizes of $100,000. To date, more than $14 million in prizes, including four top prizes, remain in the game. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
