EDUCATION TO RECEIVE $11.4 MILLION FROM LOTTERY
The Missouri Lottery today sent $11.4 million to the Lottery Proceeds Fund to be used for public education programs. The August transfer of $11,454,360 brings the total sent to education during fiscal year 2002 to more than $22.2 million.
The Missouri Lottery has provided the state, including education, with more than $1.6 billion, since it began 15 years ago.
Approximately 30 cents of every dollar spent playing the Lottery goes to education. The Missouri Lottery’s contribution to public education is about 3 percent of education’s total annual funding.
Each year, the Legislature appropriates Lottery proceeds to various education programs. For a complete list of education programs funded in fiscal year 2002, visit the Lottery’s Web site at www.molottery.com.
