Mansfield Man Claims Second of Three Tickets Worth $245,000

The second of three lucky Missouri Lottery players who matched all five Show Me Cash numbers drawn on Feb. 19 has claimed a third of the $735,000 jackpot prize, or $245,000 before taxes. Robert Power of Mansfield purchased his Quick Pick ticket at Casey’s General Store, 310 W. Commercial, in Mansfield.
“I only play a few times a month, maybe, if the jackpots are high,” the 70-year-old retired farmer began. “It was funny. I was at home about to go to bed the other night when I remembered I needed to check my ticket. I was out the door faster than I don’t know what!”
Power switched gears rapidly and traveled back to the store to confirm his win.
“They (clerks) said to go to a Lottery office, because they couldn’t pay me at the store,” he recalled, adding that he figured he must’ve won “something big.”
Power said the prize will “make it a lot easier” for the first-time Lottery winner.
“I’m going to get out of debt and stay there,” he declared.
While claiming his prize at the Lottery’s Springfield office, Murphy shared how he almost didn’t buy the ticket that was ultimately worth nearly a quarter of a million dollars.
“I normally play my own numbers and only buy one ticket at a time,” he explained. “But, I had $2 with me at the time, so after playing my regular numbers, I thought, ‘Why not get a Quick Pick, too?’”
Power’s decision paid off, because he matched the winning numbers on the Quick Pick ticket.
“I’m thankful,” he concluded, noting that the windfall will enable him to “live again” without worrying so much about bills.
Two other retail locations also sold tickets with the winning number combination:  Discount Smoke Shop, 6920 Chippewa, in St. Louis; and QuikTrip, 5025 N. Antioch Road, in Kansas City. A Kansas City man claimed the prize from the ticket sold in Kansas City, but the St. Louis store’s winner has not yet come forward. The winning numbers were:  10, 11, 17, 18 and 24.

Show Me Cash, a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins, started in 2008. In the past 12 months, 57 jackpot prizes have been awarded, with the average jackpot size of more than $160,000.
