Dodging the wind and rain by scratching Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets from the comfort of his vehicle in a 7-Eleven parking lot led to an eventful afternoon for a Kirkwood truck driver. Within the space of an hour, Jerry Redmond, 52, had uncovered a $50,000 top prize on a “Lucky Gold” ticket and made his way to the Lottery’s St. Louis office to stake his claim.

“There’s no strategy,” he said, discussing his big win. “It was just my lucky time.”

After “shaking to death” during those first winning moments, he is still pondering the possibilities for his unexpected payout.

Redmond purchased the winning ticket at 7-Eleven, 639 Woodbine Ave., in Kirkwood.

Lucky Gold,” which officially began on Dec. 30, 2013, offers prizes ranging from $3 to $50,000 for revealing “gold bar” symbols.

Remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be checked using the Lottery’s mobile website or app.
