According to Keith Lawrence of Macks Creek, there’s nothing better than winning big on a Missouri Lottery ticket that someone else bought. Lawrence, 32, uncovered a $5,000 prize on a “Lucky Gold” Scratchers ticket that his girlfriend purchased at Bates Grocery, 16119 W. Highway 54, in Macks Creek.
“She’s been playing them,” said Lawrence of the “Lucky Gold” game. “She bought some, we split them, and woo-hoo, I picked the right one!”
Lawrence, his girlfriend, Laura, and their children were enjoying a break in the weather by grilling outside earlier this week. They determined a lucky sign must have helped their cause.
“She saw a falling star that evening,” recalled Lawrence. “I guess her wish came true.”
When they scratched the tickets later that night, Lawrence noted the excitement.
“We went nuts,” he laughed.
Laura seemed content with a promise of engagement, and instead, the couple will use the windfall to add on to their home.
“Build an addition,” said Lawrence of their plans. “Build an addition so we can get some more rooms for the kids.”
He said he’ll continue to play the Lottery, hoping for a bigger win on a game like Powerball.
“Save as much money as you can. You’ll get lucky one day,” he counseled.
“Lucky Gold” is a $3 game that officially began Dec. 30, 2013. The game features a top prize of $50,000, of which, four remain.
