On Feb. 2, fans were lining up for the big game, and Jeffrey Tucker was prepping for a big day at DJ’s Drink, 12344 Natural Bridge Road, in Bridgeton. Tucker, 41, sometimes buys a multi-draw Missouri Lottery Club Keno ticket at the start of his shift, and this day was no different. Seeing the progressive jackpot was high, Tucker bought one 8-spot ticket for the next 10 drawings. He then went about preparing for the busy day. He didn’t realize he was the winner of a $46,346 prize until his boss noticed the jackpot got hit.
“My bar manager came in and happened to look up at the monitor,” recalled Tucker. “She said, ‘Darn, somebody hit it. I was just getting ready to play.’ And I said, ‘Darn, I better go check my ticket.’ And viola, there it was.”
Because it was busy day, Tucker didn’t have time to relish the win. But several patrons had some fun at his expense. They teased he saved them money by hitting the progressive jackpot. That’s what made Tucker’s win so large. A progressive jackpot builds for players of a 6, 7 or 8-spot ticket. The normal payout for an 8-spot Keno ticket is $10,000, and the progressive jackpot added the rest of the prize amount.
“My wife and I are still trying to absorb everything that actually happened,” said Tucker. He added that the windfall would probably be used to refurbish their kitchen.
“Keep plugging away,” he counseled other players. “Hopefully, one day you’ll get your lucky draw. Like me, be at the right place at the right time and keep at it.”
Club Keno is a Draw Game with drawings every four minutes. Players choose how many numbers, or spots, to play, and win prizes based on the number of matches.
