Donald Young of Columbia went out for a tree skirt and dinner, but he came home with so much more. Young, 63, stopped at Break Time, 4 Business Loop 70 East in Columbia, and purchased a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. He scratched the “Diamond 7” Scratchers ticket in the parking lot and uncovered a $100,000 prize.
“I took it back in and showed him what I won,” recalled Young about the winning moment. He canceled the rest of the trip and took the ticket home to show his wife, Jean.
“He told me, ‘Supper can wait,’” Jean said.
Donald added that they were so flustered, they hardly ate or slept until they claimed the ticket the following day.
The retirees said that the windfall might allow them to travel to Yellowstone National Park, a trip they have always wanted to take. Beyond that, a new couch is in order.
“Do some work on the house and put the rest up to live on,” suggested Young.
Donald said he was a regular player, but this was his first large win.
“Keep trying,” he told other players. “You don’t win if you don’t play.”
“Diamond 7” is a $5 game that officially began June 24. This is the third Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket to feature play areas on the front and back of the ticket. Young claimed the final top prize in the game.
