Jeffrey Crow of La Plata was just following his fiancée’s lead when he purchased a $10,000 winning Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. When asked how he picked the “Santa Paws” Scratchers ticket, Crow replied, “I bought the one after her.” Crow, 46, said he plays about five tickets a week, and that this was his first big prize.
“I just scratched it off, and I was shocked when I got it,” he recalled about the winning moment. He purchased the winning ticket at Casey’s General Store, 1107 N. Brown, in La Plata. Tammy laughed at the notion that the winning ticket was purchased right after her.
Crow said the only plans for the windfall were tires for his truck. He works at a hog farm and said the terrain was rough on his vehicle. He did joke that Tammy joined him on the trip “because there were a lot of stores” between La Plata and Lottery headquarters.
They also combined the trip to Jefferson City with a stop at state surplus to look at equipment for the local volunteer fire district.
“Don’t overspend your money,” Crow advised other players.
“And stay calm,” he added with a laugh.
“Santa Paws” is $2 game that officially began Oct. 21. The game features a top prize of $25,000. Holiday-themed Scratchers games like “Santa Paws” are eligible for entry in the “Dashing Through The Snow” second-chance promotion, in which players can win a shopping trip to Chicago.
