If Byron and Jennifer Spears of St. Louis had actually made it inside of Kmart as they intended late last month, shoppers might’ve heard the following message over the loudspeaker, “Attention Kmart shoppers, Missouri Lottery winners in aisle four.” Yet, instead of spending money, they made $50,003 after uncovering the first of only six top prizes available in the Lottery’s “Bingo Bucks” Scratchers game. Bryon said that he owes the win to his wife.
“We were on our way to do some shopping, and she wanted a ticket,” Spears began, adding that it was Jennifer who insisted they stop at Bellefontaine BP, 10844 Bellefontaine Road, in St. Louis. “She scratched it in the car. At first, she thought we won $100, and then she thought it was $2,600. She said, ‘Pull over. Pull over!’”
Spears explained how the “big shock” caused the duo to switch gears.
“When we saw how much we’d won, we rushed home to sign the ticket and put it in our safe,” Spears recalled, joking that he and his wife were “distracted” after the win, so they never made it back to finish shopping.
While claiming the prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis office on Nov. 22, Spears said he and Jennifer intend to “use it (prize money) wisely.”
“We’ll move our family forward,” he continued. “We’ll have financial freedom.”
Spears said the prize will allow his family of six to “pay everything off entirely and live debt-free.”
“It’s really a blessing,” he concluded.
“Bingo Bucks” is a $3 ticket with a top prize of $50,003 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $3 to $25,003.
