If Gasconade County resident Linda Napier had a lucky number, it would likely be a seven. The 62-year-old uncovered a $27,777 top prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket on Oct. 17.
“I try to pick cards with sevens in it,” Napier admitted, referring to her decision to buy a “Triple Winning 7s” Scratchers game at Break Time, 702 W. Highway 28, in Owensville.
“I got the same one as the guy in front of me,” she said, while claiming her prize with her husband, Ken. “I thought, ‘Well, maybe I’ll win.”
“I scratched the first three (lines) while I was waiting in line at McDonald’s,” she remembered.
After realizing that she was holding a winning ticket for an unknown prize amount, the retiree returned to Break Time.
“They (clerks) were there with me when I finished scratching the rest of it off,” she continued.
Before driving to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to claim her prize, Napier joked that she first returned to McDonald’s for the double cheeseburger she was about to purchase before all of the excitement ensued, but there was one problem.
“I was too nervous to eat after I got it,” she shared.
Ken noted that the windfall will allow the couple to pay off their home mortgage.
“With her retiring and me just working 40 hours, being able to pay off the house really helps,” Ken added.
When asked if she’d ever won a Missouri Lottery prize before, Linda replied that the number seven was also a part of her winning history.
“I won $777 several years ago,” she beamed.
“Triple Winning 7s,” a $2 game with a top prize of $27,777, officially started on Sept. 9.
