Relaxing with a cup of coffee and a couple of Scratchers tickets paid off for one retired Joplin man. John Ballard, 67, said he plans to use his $10,000 winnings from the "Grand Casino" Scratchers game to help his 22-year-old daughter finish college. Ballard, who is retired from International Harvester, said he buys a couple of Scratchers tickets and a cup of coffee every night when he stops in The Store, 1210 E. 15th St. in Joplin. He sits in the store while he drinks his coffee and scratches off his tickets. On Monday, he uncovered the $10,000 prize. "Grand Casino," the Lottery’s 371st instant game, officially went on sale Aug. 18.
