The owner of Crossroads Convenience Store in Brinktown won $20,000 on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket purchased there. Michael Juergens, 52, explained that he had won $200 on a “Cadillac® Riches” ticket the day before and decided to put a little of that back into the game. But this time, Juergens chose the “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket and uncovered the $20,000 prize on his last scratch.
“I had won on a ticket the day before, and I had a little extra to spend,” he began. “Monopoly hadn’t been played in a while, and I actually played four tickets. The fourth one I thought I lost on, until I got to the last line, and there was a hat.”
The hat symbol meant Juergens won all 20 prizes of $1,000. He said he wasn’t going to tell anyone until his wife, Roberta, asked, “Why not?”
“A lot of people know now,” he joked. “A lot of excitement, yes. I was glad to see it finally happen at my store.”
Juergens said that he is a regular Scratchers player, and he also likes to play Show Me Cash and Powerball. He admitted he recently played Mega Millions with the growing jackpot.
“Of course, it didn’t pay off, but maybe next week,” he said, hopefully.
Plans for the windfall include building a roof over his fishing boat. Roberta told him that a vacation was in order. Juergens said it was difficult to get away, as Crossroads Convenience Store, 40001 Highway 42 in Brinktown, is a family business. However, he hinted that a vacation was likely even though “nothing was set yet.”
Though Juergens plays a lot, he suggested other players stay within their means.
“Don’t spend too much; just spend what you can,” he said. “It only takes one.”
"Mega MONOPOLY™" is a $10 game that officially began Aug. 29, 2009. The game features a top prize of $2 million. More than $11 million in prizes, including one top prize, remain in the game. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket here at MOLottery.com..
