Barry Scott of Clever had to run an errand for work, but he was worried that he was going to run out of gas. When he stopped to fuel up, he noticed that the Missouri Lottery had a new Scratchers game out, so he decided to take a chance. He never imagined he would win a new Cadillac®, but he became the third player to claim a new vehicle from the “Cadillac® Riches” Scratchers game.
“It was a new one,” explained Scott. “I’m going, maybe I just buy that one, because you usually do pretty good when it’s new.”
Scott was really just thankful that he didn’t run out of gas, but when he uncovered a prize, the day got better.
“When I saw that one number, I was thinking it was just $5 back,” he recalled. “I got my money back, and I didn’t run out of gas.”
But then he saw the car symbol, meaning he had instantly won a Cadillac® Crossover SRX. Scott bought the winning ticket at Casey’s General Store, 1110 W. Mount Vernon St., in Nixa. He checked it later that evening at another store closer to his home.
Scott admitted that his wife, Annette, was not fond of him playing the Lottery. She was a little more accepting after they claimed the cash option - $60,000 after taxes, split two ways.
“When I called her and told her, ‘I think I just won a car,’ well, she didn’t know what to think,” laughed Scott. “This doesn’t give me license to go out a buy more.
“You can only push your luck so far,” he declared. “But, we’re blessed with what we got.”
The Scotts took the cash option because Barry said he is “too fond of my truck” and “won’t get rid of it.” He said that they would use the cash to “pay bills,” and get Annette a “decent used car.”
“I’m probably going to be best friends with Johnny Morris at Bass Pro Shops,” he added with a grin.
“Cadillac® Riches” is a $5 game that officially began Aug. 15. The game features a top prize of $100,000 and six new Cadillac® vehicles that can be won instantly. Additionally, non-winning tickets are eligible for entry into a second-chance drawing, where a Cadillac® Escalade will be awarded in three drawings this fall. Three of the instant-win vehicles have now been claimed, but more than $12 million in prizes, including all three top prizes, remain in the game.
