A student at Saint Louis University plans to use the $50,000 Missouri Lottery prize he won on Aug. 9 to pay for a semester abroad. William Meiners, 21, was taking a break from his summer job doing maintenance at St. Louis University High School when he bought the winning “Bonus Slingo” Scratchers ticket.
“I have not actually bought too many Lottery tickets in the past,” began Meiners. “I had bought two of those within the last month, and I won on both.”
He bought the $50,000 winning ticket at Gas Mart, 1187 S. Kingshighway Blvd., in St. Louis.
“Why not buy a couple of tickets?” asked Meiners.
He added that he liked the Bingo and Slingo games because they take a while to play.
“It’s entertaining and exciting when you have so many options,” he declared.
Meiners said that he would “probably save most of” the windfall, but the cash would come in handy next semester. He is an accounting student who is going to spend next semester studying in Spain.
“It’s very good timing,” he said of the win.
“Bonus Slingo” is a $3 game that officially began June 24. Meiners claimed the first of six top prizes available in the game.
