A Florissant man has claimed the last top prize available in the Missouri Lottery’s “Powerball/Mega Millions” Scratchers game. Andre Chamberlain, 40, bought the winning ticket at Schnucks, 74 Grandview Plaza Shopping Center, in Florissant. He said he scratched the ticket in the store and located the $100,000 prize under one winning number on the ticket.

“I just bought a ticket, started scratching it, and I saw the number,” began Chamberlain. “It was shocking! Hard to believe.”

Chamberlain held on to the ticket for more than week before claiming it at the St. Louis Lottery office on July 25. He said he hid the winning ticket under some glasses in his kitchen cabinet until he could make the trip.

His first call was to his fiancée, Sarah.

“She didn’t believe me, so I sent her a picture on the phone,” said Chamberlain.

Sarah texted the reply – “OMG.”

Chamberlain said he plays Scratchers occasionally and likes to play his favorite Pick 3 numbers on a regular basis, but this was his first “big” win. He plans to “pay some bills” and “save most of it” for their wedding.

“I might get my fiancée a car,” he added.

Chamberlain will have to find a new “favorite” game now that all the top prizes have been claimed on this one, but he’s confident that can happen.
“Don’t give up, because you never know,” he counseled other players.  “I wasn’t expecting this.”

Powerball/Mega Millions” is a $5 game that officially began May 20. This is first time a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket has featured the jackpot Draw Games. In addition to cash prizes, players could also win free Quick Pick tickets for the Draw Games featured in the Scratchers game.
