The cashiers at Casey’s General Store, 608 W. Newton St. in Versailles, have become accustomed to seeing one particular customer in line holding winning Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets. Fifty-seven-year-old Vanessa Duckworth didn’t disappoint on July 16 when she once again showed store clerks a winning $4,000 “$1,000,000 Classic Cash” ticket, her self-proclaimed “lucky game.”
“I just got off work and was killing time,” the Wal-Mart employee explained, adding that she’s won “several $500s” on that game in the past.
“It was quite exciting,” she shared. “I called my son, and he goes, ‘You’re kidding!’”
After convincing Nick, one of her five children, that she’d won again, she “ran in” to show a store manager the ticket.
Despite the game being “real good” to Duckworth, she was still shocked to discover her most recent prize amount.
“I was tickled with the $200 when I first scratched it off,” she recalled, referring to uncovering her prize amounts line-by-line. “Then I scratched the next one, and that was even better, and then I saw that they’re all winning!”
The store regular joked that one clerk often says, “I heard you won today,” so she’s looking forward to sharing the news about her $4,000 win.
“Wait until she hears this!” Duckworth beamed.
As for plans for the windfall, in addition to paying off an auto loan and bills, it will help with traveling expenses to an upcoming “pow-wow” in Sedalia, where some of her unique glass paintings will be displayed.
“$1,000,000 Classic Cash” is a $10 ticket with a top prize of $1 million and thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $100,000.
