Ronald Clark of Columbia is a regular Missouri Lottery player. He doesn’t spend a lot, but if he stops on the way home from work, he usually springs for a dollar or two on Show Me Cash and Lotto, Missouri’s two state jackpot games. He had purchased a Quick Pick ticket for the Show Me Cash jackpot on June 12 at Hy-Vee, 3100 W. Broadway in Columbia, that resulted in a $130,000 prize.

“You know, $1 or $2, if I’m going to work or coming home from work or something,” said Clark of his Lottery habit. “I don’t play massive amounts, but it only takes one ticket to win.”

Clark was back at that Hy-Vee a few days following the drawing when he found out he won. He stuck his tickets into a “Check-A-Ticket” machine and was shocked to see the display show a prize amount of $130,000.  He said he was used to seeing “Sorry, not a winner.”

“I liked this message a whole lot better,” he declared.

Clark was one of two players to match all five winning numbers in the June 12 drawing. The other winning ticket was sold in Macon, and each winner got half of the advertised jackpot or $130,000. Both retail locations received a $500 bonus for selling a winning jackpot ticket. The winning Show Me Cash numbers for June 12 were:  3, 15, 22, 23 and 28.

Clark said he kept the news to himself until he saw his wife, Carla, later that evening.

“I said, ‘I’m going to add to your money troubles.’ She said, ‘Lay it on me,’” recalled Clark.

He then told her that they won $130,000.

“And then we hugged and were really elated,” he added.

Plans for the windfall include paying off the mortgage on their Columbia home.

“We’d like to retire someday,” said Clark, 64. He works for the Columbia Housing Authority, and Carla works for State Farm Insurance.

More immediately, the money might help fund a cross-country vacation. The Clarks plan on riding their motorcycle to Yellowstone National Park.

“You can’t win if you don’t play, and it only takes one to win,” he repeated. “I think it’s a great thing the state of Missouri has gone through with the Lottery, myself.”

Show Me Cash” is a daily Draw Game, with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins. The Clarks won the 258th jackpot awarded in the game since 2008. In the past 12 months, 55 Show Me Cash jackpots have been awarded for an average amount of more than $188,000.
