Forty-year-old Krista Sanders of Van Buren was thrilled when she thought she’d won a $5,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. Sanders was “shocked” when she claimed her “$50,000 Crossword Extra” prize at the Lottery’s Springfield office and discovered she’d actually won a $50,000 top prize.
“I was shaking,” Sanders recalled. “It took me forever to fill out the paperwork. I just can’t believe it. This is going to change my life!”
The Missouri Department of Transportation employee explained that the prize will “make life easier.”
“I have two kids, and I’m a single mom,” she shared. “I’m going to pay off the rest of my student loan that’s been lingering over my head for 15 years, and I’m probably going to pay off my truck, and I’ll get to see more of my paychecks!”
She’d been hoping to take her children to Florida this fall to visit her brother, who works as a manager at SeaWorld®.
“Mama has been working two jobs to save for a trip to Orlando,” she explained. “So that’s what they (kids) want the money to go towards.”
In addition to a vacation later this year, the Sanders’ family is also planning another trip closer to home.
“My kids are off school, and I took off work today,” she began. “I told my kids that we’d stop at Chuck E. Cheese on our way back home. Maybe we’ll get some more tokens or extra pizza now.”
Sanders won $1,000 on a different Scratchers game in the past, but her most recent win is her biggest to date.
“I’m infatuated with ‘Crossword,’” she added. “I just love number games and puzzle games.”
“$50,000 Crossword Extra” is a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000.
