Jefferson City Man Wins $10,000 Scratchers Prize

A hard-working Jefferson City man is breathing a little easier after winning a $10,000 Missouri Lottery Scratchers prize. Joshua Preston, 29, holds down two jobs. He works nights at R.L. Donnelly and days for a local landscaping crew. He’s gone so much, that his girlfriend, Natasha, sometimes slips Scratchers tickets into his lunch as a “treat.” He won $30 on various $2 and $5 games recently, so he decided to cash them in and try a little more expensive game. Preston bought two $10 “$1,000,000 Classic Cash” Scratchers tickets on June 21 that resulted in a $10,000 prize.

“I had that $30 in winnings, so I decided to try a little more expensive game,” explained Preston. “The first number I scratched off was a ‘moneybags.’”

The “moneybags” symbol means that the player wins all 20 prizes on the “$1,000,000 Classic Cash” ticket. Each number on the ticket had a $500 prize, adding up to $10,000 total.

“I was just kind of shocked,” said Preston.

“He giggled a lot,” added Natasha, talking about the moment she found out about the win.

Preston said he planned to pay bills with the windfall, noting that the win would bring some “relief.” In addition to giving them a little breathing room, some of the money may be used for a vacation and a little celebration.
“We’re going to lunch!” declared Natasha.

Preston bought his winning ticket at Convenient Food Mart, 701 Eastland Dr., in Jefferson City.
