Alpha Durham plays Missouri Lottery Scratchers games on a regular basis, scoring occasional wins along the way. But the 57-year-old was still caught off guard when a $10 ticket he purchased at Abel’s Quik Shop, 719 S. Main St. in Paris, yielded a $10,000 cash prize.

“I never expect to win, but when I do, it’s a beautiful thing,” he said, referencing the 20 $500 prizes he uncovered on his winning “Millionaire” Scratchers ticket.

“There were four rows of them,” he beamed.

“Somebody’s got to win it, and it might as well be me,” Durham added.

After sending some of his prize money toward bills, he also plans to “spend some of it on my daughter.”

The $10 “Millionaire” ticket officially began on May 20 and offers a top prize of $1 million. Durham’s prize of $10,000 was one of 90 made available in the game. Remaining prizes for this, and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games, can be tracked on our main Scratchers page.
