Ruth Lewis can now add one more Missouri Lottery win to her long list of prize payouts. The 58-year-old Moberly woman most recently uncovered a $5,000 prize on a “$100,000 Crossword Doubler” ticket earlier this month, which marks what she recalls as the 7th time she’s made a trip to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to claim a prize of $600 or more.
“One time I won $9,000, and one time I won $6,000,” Lewis shared. “About three or four times, I won $3,250.”
Additionally, the forklift driver noted she collected $750 twice on SHOW ME 5 Paydown, which was a game replaced by Show Me Cash in 2008.
Even though she’s no stranger to winning, she admitted that she could barely catch her breath after uncovering her $5,000 prize.
“I was happy, but I was shocked,” she said. “I was sitting on the couch, and I knew I won $500. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s cool!’ I skimmed over it (ticket), and I found another number.”
Unable to believe her eyes, she immediately jumped into her car and drove back to Moberly Mart, 1400 N. Morley St. in Moberly, where she purchased the ticket.
“I had him check it, and it was right,” she recalled, referring to the cashier.
“It was weird, because it was two months ago yesterday that my husband passed away, so it kind of comes in handy,” Lewis explained, denoting all of her wins as “blessings.”
After using the prize money to pay off a new air conditioner and furnace for her home, she plans to “put some aside for a rainy day.”
Before leaving the Jefferson City Lottery office, an optimistic Lewis beamed, “I’m going to keep coming back!”
In fact, she added that she has plans to hopefully extend her lucky streak into the weekend.
“I’m going to bingo tonight,” she noted. “Since my luck is rolling, I might as well keep going.”
“$100,000 Crossword Doubler” is a $5 game that offers two game puzzles and a top prize of $100,000.
