Kansas City Man Buys Lottery Ticket Worth $150,000

Fred Walker Jr. routinely buys Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash tickets and checks his numbers against the winning numbers reports found at retail. On Memorial Day, he was shocked to find his own set of numbers looking back at him from the May 26 drawing report.

“I looked at the numbers, and I had four, and I thought, ‘Great. I won two-and-a-half,’” he said, referring to the game’s $250 prize for matching four out of five numbers.

He soon realized he had the fifth and final number as well, which meant the retiree could lay claim to half of the night’s $300,000 jackpot prize. He splits the prize with another lucky player who matched all five numbers drawn – 9, 11, 19, 29 and 38.

“It was a nice payoff, all right,” he said, happy with his share.
“I’ll put it in savings,” he added. “I’m looking for property at Truman Lake, and this might get me some more acreage.”

Walker purchased his Quick Pick ticket at QuikTrip, 4510 N.W. Gateway Dr,. in Kansas City. It was the 255th jackpot-winning ticket since Show Me Cash began in 2008. The daily game offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and continues to grow by at least $5,000 at each drawing until someone wins it.

Since the current fiscal year began on July 1, there have been 51 Show Me Cash jackpot winners – with an average win of $191,039.
