Jefferson City Couple Plan Summer Getaway with $50,000 Prize

Story Photo audio icon Jefferson City lovebirds Stephen Cole, 38, and Tiffany Coates, 28, are packing their bags and loading up their vehicle with an extra $50,000 in their pockets for their dream summer vacation. Cole and Coates recently uncovered a top prize on a Missouri Lottery “$50,000 Crossword Extra” Scratchers game, and their entire family is benefitting from the win with some fun in the sun.

While claiming their prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, Cole, a cook, and Coates, a bartender, both at Chili’s in Jefferson City, said they knew exactly how to spend their prize money. Coates teased that the workaholics are taking a “much-needed, well-deserved, long-ado vacation” to a resort in Wisconsin, complete with go-carts and eight waterparks.

The pair reminisced about the day they realized they’d won enough money to finish home repairs, spoil family members on their birthdays and “get everything we want” to put finishing touches on their Jefferson City residence.

“He’s always telling me that one day he’s going to hit that $50,000,” beamed Coates.

Cole added that he “thought it was $5,000 at first,” and he was thrilled with that prize amount. He noted that he was shocked when he realized he’d actually won the game’s first top prize.

“He got up and started running around the house,” Coates interjected, explaining that Cole originally requested that she buy a different Scratchers game for them at Convenient Food Mart, 3714 W. Truman Blvd., in Jefferson City.

“They were out, so I ended up getting a $3 Crossword,” Coates said, referring to the winning ticket. “I’m definitely excited!”

Cole chimed in, “I’m overwhelmed!”

$50,000 Crossword Extra” is a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000 that boasts more than $10 million in total available prizes. To date, seven out of eight top prizes and thousands of additional prizes, ranging from $3 to $5,000, remain in play.
