A St. Louis realtor scored the commission of a lifetime on a Missouri Lottery Powerball ticket. Jamie Bone, 26, bought a Quick Pick ticket for the recent record $590.5 million Powerball jackpot at Sam’s Liquor & Convenience, 250 Kingston Dr., in St. Louis. She missed the jackpot by the Powerball number, but she matched all five white-ball numbers to win $1 million.
“I went in there and asked the clerk if anybody had won it yet,” recalled Bone. “My husband had been talking about it, because they did a pool at his business.”
Bone said she plays Scratchers more often than the Draw Games, but since the Powerball jackpot was so high, she decided to lay down $10 for tickets.
“If I had bought any amount less, we wouldn’t have won. It was on the very last line,” she said. “It’s insane. It’s unbelievable.”
Bone was one of two winners in Missouri to match all five winning numbers for the May 18 Powerball drawing. The winning numbers were: 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52. The other winning ticket was sold in Doniphan. Both retail locations will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket.
The Match 5 prize is paid in a lump sum, so Bone will receive $710,000 after taxes. She said the money would help support their businesses – her husband, Adam, operates Bone Auto Glass on Hampton Avenue, and she is a realtor for Coldwell Banker. The prize is also enabling her to do a little work for herself; picking out a new home.
“We had stopped looking until things improved a little, but now it’s back on. We looked online last night. I made a list, and we’re going to go look at a few homes when we leave here,” she said.
Other plans include college funds for her two boys and charitable donations.
Bone was still having trouble believing that she won $1 million.
“I really thought that I would come here and they would be like, ‘Oh, no. There’s been a mistake,’” she revealed. “We’re just so excited, and we’re so happy to move. It changes a lot of things.”
Powerball is a multi-lottery Draw Game with jackpots that start at $40 million. Drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. For an extra $1 at the time of purchase, players can add Power Play to their ticket and win larger non-jackpot prizes. The Match 5 prize with Power Play becomes $2 million.
