When Willard resident Carol Simmons’ lunch hour ended, she was completely full – with cash! The 63-year-old corporate assistant for O’Reilly Automotive discovered she had matched all five numbers from the Missouri Lottery’s Show Me Cash drawing on April 3 during her lunch break the day after the drawing, which resulted in a $489,000 payday. Simmons bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at Casey’s General Store, 410 Miller Road, in Willard. The winning numbers were: 2, 20, 29, 33 and 35.
“I called my husband (Ed),” Simmons recalled, referring to the moment she scanned her ticket and learned she’d just won nearly a half-a-million dollars. “Then, I called my boss and told her I’d be a little bit late back from lunch, because I was going to the Lottery office.”
The first-time Lottery winner joked that the windfall is “more money than I’ve ever had in my life!”
“I’m going to pay off bills, and my husband is probably going to get a new truck,” she shared. “I just can’t believe it!”
Simmons added that she and Ed recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary, so they might use a portion of the prize money to take a belated celebratory trip.
“I’ve always wanted to take a cruise,” she noted. “I don’t know if we’ll do it or not, but I’d like to!”
When asked to sum up her Lottery-winning experience, she said the prize “will change my life.”
“I just feel wonderful,” she reflected. “It’s just such a relief. I mean, I cannot believe that I’m actually going to be able to pay my bills off. I’m just so grateful.”Show Me Cash is a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins. Simmons won the game’s 247th jackpot. Show Me Cash sales began in 2008.
