Jeana Peyla of Fulton might have been clocked out for the day, but she still managed to make $50,000. The 28-year-old retail clerk at MPC, 500 Highway 54 S. in Fulton, decided to “do some (errand) running” with her husband, Tony, after her shift concluded. Along the way, the pair stopped back at MPC to visit Jeana’s co-workers and purchase a “Slingo” ticket.
“I was trying to convince my husband that I did win,” she recalled with a laugh, referring to the moment she uncovered the $50,000 prize. “He refused to believe it.”
But after confirmation that the ticket did indeed hold a top prize, Tony changed his tune.
“He was freaking out,” she teased. “My boss, she was there, and she scanned it (ticket). She was excited.”
As for Jeana, despite learning she’d just won the Lottery, she admitted that after working an early shift, she was “pretty much ready to go home and go to sleep.”
“The excitement didn’t hit me until I got home,” she added. “I started thinking about it, and I was like, ‘I just won $50,000!’”
The Peylas plan to use the windfall to “build a garage and pay off student loans.” Whatever is left will go into a savings account.
“Slingo” is a $3 game that offers more than $10 million in total available prizes.
