St. Joseph Lottery Player Secures $100,000 Prize
For the first time in Catherine Brown’s life, the 55-year-old will be entirely free of debt, thanks to uncovering a $100,000 Missouri Lottery Scratchers prize. Brown credits her recent good fortune to a spur-of-the-moment decision to try a ticket she normally wouldn’t have played.
While en route from her job as a heavy equipment operator in Weston to her home in St. Joseph, the first-time Lottery winner stopped at Culver’s Hawkins, 6401 Memorial Highway in St. Joseph, to “take a breather.”
“I wasn’t going to buy the ticket,” Brown explained, referring to a $10 “$1,000,000 Classic Cash” Scratchers game.
However, since she was cashing a $15 winning ticket from a different game, she had extra money to spare.
While debating with a store clerk about making the purchase, she initially said she didn’t want to “waste $10,” but seconds later, she changed her mind.
When Brown returned to her vehicle, she teased that she “about died” when she uncovered the prize amount.
The mother of three immediately called her children, who “didn’t believe it.”
“They think I’m getting a little senile,” she added with a laugh. “They said, ‘Mom, are you sure? You might’ve misread it.’”
After sending a picture of the winning ticket via text, her kids changed their tune.
Brown labeled the entire experience as “so surreal.”
“I’m going to pay off all my bills,” she beamed.
“$1,000,000 Classic Cash” is a $10 ticket with a top prize of $1 million and thousands of prizes ranging from $10 to $100,000.
