Carthage Resident Surprised at Missouri Lottery Office

A Carthage woman walked into the Missouri Lottery’s office in Springfield happy to claim a $5,000 Scratchers prize, but she was downright thrilled by the time she left. Nicole Cook, 22, had just learned that her “Bonus Word Crossword” ticket was actually worth $50,000.
In “Crossword,” players uncover letters to spell words, and the total number of words spelled in the game’s puzzle determines the amount won. While Cook originally thought her ticket contained just 10 words, it held 11 different words, earning the young mother a top prize of $50,000.

“I was so excited,” Cook said. “I’m going to pay off bills and then go shopping. I love shopping!”

Cook bought her winning “Bonus Word Crossword” ticket at Casey’s General Store, 917 W. Central Ave., in Carthage.  The $3 game officially began on Jan. 5, 2012.
