A Washington man said things are looking up after winning an $85,000 Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash jackpot. Allen Rowley, 57, said that things have been tight in their household since a medical emergency set them back a few years ago. Rowley, who works as a probation officer, said that he and his wife, Marcia, bought the winning ticket at West End Station, 1400 W. Fifth St., in Washington.
“We’re just making it to payday,” he explained. “We were just happy that we had an extra $1, and we got a $1 ticket.”
The Quick Pick ticket held all five winning Show Me Cash numbers for the Feb. 8 drawing: 6, 11, 26, 34 and 36. The Rowley’s discovered they were winners the following day.
“My wife actually checked it at Schnucks in Washington,” recalled Rowley. “Then we went to three other stores to check it and make sure we weren’t crazy. It was unbelievable.”
Each time they checked the ticket, the Rowley’s confirmed the $85,000 prize. During the sleepless nights before they claimed the prize on Feb. 11, they decided how to spend the windfall.
“Pay all our bills,” said Rowley. “Pay off the house. Pay off everything, and all we’ll have to worry about is paying our electricity. That’s a gift.”
Rowley admitted that his wife was the real player. Marcia is a beautician at Color Creations Salon in Washington.
“My wife has played for years and years,” he said. “This time, we went down together. What the heck, we had a dollar, and we won on a dollar ticket.”
“Always keep on dreaming,” he counseled other players. “Keep on playing. The dreams can come true.”
Show Me Cash is a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins. West End Station received a $500 bonus for selling a winning jackpot ticket. This was the 241st winning Show Me Cash jackpot ticket sold since the game began in 2008.
