A Missouri Lottery player’s decision to throw an extra $1 toward a Powerball purchase ended up paying off four times over, totaling $40,000 in winnings.

Gerald Donna of Kansas City added the Power Play feature to his Quick Pick ticket for the Powerball drawing on Feb. 9. As luck would have it, the 75-year-old matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball. The feat was worth $10,000, but since Donna added Power Play, his winnings increased to the fixed Power Play prize of $40,000.

Donna bought his ticket at Gary’s Amoco, 13015 State Line Road, in Kansas City. The winning numbers were:  5, 6, 16, 36 and 58.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-lottery Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. The optional Power Play feature can increase a player’s original prize amount from $4 to $1 million two to four times.
