Things are looking up for a Bonne Terre woman after winning a $100,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “20X The Cash” Scratchers ticket. Dorinda Cannan, 53, moved from Indiana to Bonne Terre in the last year to be closer to family so she could help care for her mother. She purchased the winning ticket at Bonne Terre Convenience, 919 Benham St. in Bonne Terre, on Feb. 4 and took it home to scratch it.

“I scratched the first numbers off, and it said $5,000,” began Cannan. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh!’ The excitement just kept building and building. I got done and it totaled up to $100,000!”

Cannan shared the news with her sister and mother, who didn’t believe her at first. After showing them the ticket, she signed it, took pictures and put it in a safe place until she could claim it the next day.

“I’ve struggled a lot in my life,” explained Cannan. “Right now, my mother is living with me. This is an awesome time. It just came at a great time.”

She went on to detail how she would use the money – paying down debt for her mother and sister, paying off her daughter’s car and possibly buying a new one for herself.

“The rest of it is going in the bank,” she declared. “It makes me feel great! It takes a lot off my shoulders right now.”

Cannan, who works with disabled and special needs people in St. Francois county, plans to keep playing the Lottery.

“As long as I keep winning, I keep buying,” she said. “It’s just spur of the moment. If I have the extra money, then I do it.”

“Just don’t every give up,” she added. “If you have an extra dollar or two, play it!”

20X The Cash” is a $5 ticket that officially began Feb. 4. Cannan claimed the first top prize out of seven in the game. To date, more than $19 million in prizes remain. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
