John Blackwell of Cape Girardeau had a choice of adding the Megaplier feature to his Mega Millions ticket on Jan. 11. His decision to spend an extra $1 paid off by turning his $10,000 prize into a $40,000 payday.
Sixty-two-year-old Blackwell used Quick Pick to match four white-ball numbers and the Mega Ball. The feat took what would’ve been a $10,000 prize and multiplied that by four, the Megaplier number drawn on Jan. 11.
Blackwell bought his Mega Millions ticket at Schnucks, 19 S. Kingshighway St., in Cape Girardeau. The winning numbers from Jan. 11 were: 24, 29, 30, 34 and 56. The Mega Ball was 1, and the Megaplier was 4.
Mega Millions is a Draw Game with jackpots starting at $12 million and growing until someone wins. It costs $1 to play, and for an additional $1, players can add the Megaplier feature, which multiplies non-jackpot prize winnings by 2, 3 or 4 times their normal value.
