A New Bloomfield man is about to dust off his motorcycle boots and ride off with a brand-new Kawasaki, thanks to winning a $20,000 Missouri Lottery prize in mid-January. Melvin Aungerpr, 67, joked that he “wasn’t planning on winning” when he bought a “$100,000 Crossword” Scratchers ticket from Merten’s Mini-Mart, 6603 State Road NN, in Fulton.

“I just scratch, because it’s fun,” the retiree admitted.

The father-of-four said the winnings will be his “fun money” for the New Year. He explained that he’s been considering purchasing a new bike, but he was saving up the money to get a special edition. The sudden windfall provided enough extra cash to turn his dream into a reality sooner than expected.

When asked for advice for fellow Lottery players, Aungerpr said he believes persistence and dedication are key ingredients to success.

“Just stay with the same game,” he suggested, adding not to “skip around” from game to game.

$100,000 Crossword,” a $5 game with a top prize of $100,000, officially started on June 6, 2012.
