A Republic man is now the 13th Missouri Lottery player to win a $1 million Match 5 prize in the past year, after matching all five white-ball numbers selected in the Jan. 12 Powerball drawing. Don Logan, 48, claimed his prize at the Lottery’s Springfield regional office on Jan. 14.
“I’ve played Wednesdays and Saturdays for several years,” Logan explained, noting that while he often chooses his own set of numbers, it was a Quick Pick ticket that led to his million-dollar prize.
He learned of his big win the morning following the drawing, when he stopped by a local convenience store to scan several Lottery tickets he had been holding.
“I scanned that winning ticket at least three times,” Logan said, laughing at the recollection.
His first move was to tell his girlfriend, having her check the numbers on his ticket against those listed in the Sunday newspaper.
The couple has no firm plans for their winnings, but Logan stated that a portion of it would be set aside for their young son.
Logan purchased his winning Powerball ticket – with the winning numbers of 10, 14, 21, 23 and 47 – at Casey’s General Store, 604 N. Main, in Republic.
Powerball is a multi-state game with jackpots starting at $40 million. Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m.
