An out-of-towner’s visit to the Show Me State led to a permanent lifestyle change in early 2013. William Barker of Oakland, Calif., had been considering making the move to Missouri to be closer to relatives. Yet, he wasn’t sold on the idea until a brush with Missouri Lottery luck earned him an $18,600 payday.

“The Lord blessed me,” Barker reflected, recalling the moment he saw he’d won on a Keno To Go ticket he bought at Petro Mart, 1004 N. Stadium, in Columbia. “I kept the faith. I was so happy that I shouted in the store. I started praising God!”

The windfall will “help tremendously” with Barker’s plans to relocate to the Midwest. Additionally, the military veteran intends to use the prize money to “help some causes” close to his heart, like donating aid to organizations overseas.

Barker won on a 5-Spot ticket with Bulls-Eye on Jan. 2. To play Keno, players choose how many different numbers (also called “spots”) they want to play from 1 to 10. Keno drawings are held every four minutes.
