The date 12-12-12 brought good luck to a school bus driver for the Willard R-2 School District when he uncovered a $50,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “Bonus Word Crossword” Scratchers ticket on Dec. 12. Randal Richardson, 55, made the lucky discovery aboard his bus.

Richardson explained that he has about 20 minutes daily to “sit and wait” in the bus staging area for the kids to get out of school, routinely scratching a couple of “Bingo” or “Crossword” Scratchers games to pass the time.

As he scratched his tickets on this particular day, he “started finding more and more words” on his “Crossword” game.

“I went to the bus sitting behind me and asked that driver, Sharon, if it was right,” he shared.

They counted all the words contained within the game’s puzzle, and Richardson soon realized he was holding a ticket worth $50,000.

Noting both his and the Lottery’s connection to education, he teased, “I guess I really did ‘Play It Forward.’

I’m going to pay off my car and some on the house,” he added of his plans for the winnings.

Richardson bought his winning “Bonus Word Crossword™” ticket at Willard Eagle Stop, 652 S. Hunt Road, in Willard. In addition to the top prize of $50,000, the $3 Scratchers game also offers thousands of other prizes ranging from $3 to $5,000, all of which can be tracked at MOLottery.com.
