St. Louis Bride-To-Be Using Lottery Winnings for Summer Wedding

Story Photo audio icon A $25,000 Missouri Lottery windfall is helping bride-to-be Monica Heien have a “stress-free” wedding planning experience. The 25-year-old St. Louis woman credits a trip to Schnucks, 60 Hampton Village Plaza in St. Louis, as the catalyst that led her to uncovering a top prize on a “Holiday Cash” Scratchers ticket earlier this month.

“I was cashing in a previous ‘Holiday Cash’ winner,” Heien began. “I usually spend my winnings back on more tickets.”

The first-time Lottery winner admitted to forgetting about the tickets she bought at Schnucks until the following day.

“I was straightening everything up, and I remembered that I had two scratch-offs in my purse.”

After she saw the prize amount, she joked that she “immediately about had a heart attack” before calling her fiancé, Joel Brock.

“He didn’t believe me,” she noted, adding that Joel thought she had doctored the cell phone picture of the ticket she sent to him.

As for plans for the prize money, Heien didn’t hesitate on stating exactly how the extra cash would be used.

“We’re planning a wedding in August, so it’s going to go toward the wedding and bills,” she beamed.

Holiday Cash,” a $2 game with a top prize of $25,000 and thousands of prizes ranging from $2 to $10,000, officially started on Oct. 22.
