Stephen Richter of Richland is feeling “relief” after winning $100,000 on a Missouri Lottery holiday-themed Scratchers ticket in mid-November.
While claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, the 63-year-old retiree recalled the fated day he bought a winning “Holiday Spectacular” game.
“Out of the blue, it (my mind) said, ‘Pick that one!’” Richter reminisced, noting he was filling up his gasoline tank at Crocker Conoco, 504 Commercial Street in Crocker, when he got the urge to purchase a Lottery ticket.
“I scratched it, and Lord behold, it was a biggie!”
After realizing he was now able to pay off all of his bills, credit card debt and even the new vehicle he bought the week prior, he called his fiancé, Dianna Crews, who added she felt “numb and excited.”
“We’ve been praying for this for a long time,” said Crews. “I thank the Lord that we got it.”
Richter and Crews explained that the Lottery prize will also enable the couple to make a long-term dream a reality. Richer, who shared that he and Dianna have been planning on getting married, said the recent windfall will provide the needed finances to bring their plans to fruition.
When asked to sum up his feelings, Richter beamed, “Is this a dream?” He teased that he kept pinching himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
“Holiday Spectacular,” a $5 game with a top prize of $100,000, officially started on Oct. 22.
