A Jefferson City man credits karma with his latest $5,000 Missouri Lottery win. Clifton Simms is no stranger to winning – he won two $10,000 Lottery prizes in 2006 within the period of a month. The dedicated Scratchers player said that he regularly wins smaller prizes, including a $1,000 win a few weeks ago. Simms said “living right” and volunteering at church puts him in a position to “receive the Lord’s blessings.”
“I know God doesn’t bless you for gambling, but I still try to do my part in society, by helping people and so forth,” he explained. “When you give to others, God rewards you two- and four-fold.”
It’s certainly the right path for Simms. He purchased the winning “Black Pearls” ticket at Bee Line Snack Shop, 5114 Old Lohman Road, in Jefferson City. It’s the same location where he purchased winning tickets previously.
“My father always said, ‘If you find something good, stay with it.’ I guess that’s why I’m still married,” he laughed.
His wife, Paula, is getting used to Simms showing her winning tickets. He said he looks for certain numbered tickets, and always scratches them at the kitchen table with his lucky quarter.
“I might be crazy, but I have a certain way I do things. Once, I even told her to leave the latex scrapings on the table as not to disturb the mojo,” he added.
It’s working for the 64-year-old retiree. Plans for the windfall may include fixing up his “factory” older-model car.
“This car is in mint condition. I don’t think I’ll ever change anything on it,” he declared.
Simms will definitely keep playing the Lottery and offered some advice for other players.
“One big thing – always think positive and be positive. Keep a positive thought, because sooner or later, it’s going to come,” he stated.
“Black Pearls” is a $5 game that officially began April 21. More than $7 million in prizes, including six top prizes of $100,000, remain in the game. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game at MOLottery.com.
