Danny Porter of Monroe City collected a quick $20,000, courtesy of the Missouri Lottery. The 65-year-old purchased a winning “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket at C & R Supermarket, 1110 Highway 24 in Monroe City, while grocery shopping in late October.

“Every time I’m in there, I get three tickets,” revealed Porter, adding that he ended up winning on two of the three tickets – $20,000 and $25.

Porter recalled that at first, he thought he’d won $100, which he was happy about. So, he was shocked when he saw multiple zeros. In all, he uncovered a total of 20 $1,000 prize amounts, causing the retired construction worker to question his own eyes.

“I even went and got a magnifying glass,” he noted. “I couldn’t believe it!”

“I just started laughing. If anybody had heard me laughing, they would’ve thought I was a maniac!”

Porter, who plans to save most of his windfall, said the prize will be “really handy for a retired person.”

“I probably won’t change anything, but it’s nice having the security of that money in the bank,” he shared.

As for celebratory plans, the seafood aficionado intends to indulge at one of his favorite restaurants – Red Lobster.

“I’m really happy, and it really pays to play the Lottery!” he concluded.

Mega MONOPOLY™”  is a $10 game with a top prize of $2 million that officially started on Aug. 29, 2009.
