Shelley Williams of Owensville ended up with more than a quenched thirst after she bought a soda and a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket in mid-October. The 30-year-old mother-of-two walked away from Mobil on the Run, 102 Truman in Cuba, $5,000 richer. Williams, a first-time Missouri Lottery winner, uncovered the prize on her favorite game, “Bonus Word Crossword.”
Williams believed she’d won $500 for most of the day, until one of her children returned from school and informed her that she “missed a letter.”
Following a quick trip to a local grocery store for confirmation, Williams was on her way to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to collect her prize.
“The kids were very excited,” Williams noted. “I honestly didn’t believe it at first.”
As for how she’ll spend the windfall, plans are still undecided. When asked if her kids had ideas, she teased, “Yes, they want everything!”
“Bonus Word Crossword,” a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially started on Aug. 27.
