The phrase “all in the family” has new meaning for a couple of Ste. Genevieve siblings after winning half of the largest Show Me Cash jackpot ever offered. Sisters Judith Brown and Doris Meyer claimed half of a record-breaking $898,000 jackpot prize after matching all five numbers drawn during the Oct. 4 drawing.
“Any time the jackpot is over $100,000, my sister and I go in as partners,” Brown, a retiree, explained. “I gave my husband money to buy five $1 tickets, and then I put my name and my sister’s name on two of the tickets and my husband’s name on the other three.”
When she checked the winning Show Me Cash numbers online early the next day, Brown received the surprise of her life.
“The second ticket was the winner; I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I called my sister at 4:30 in the morning to tell her we won.”
It took a sleepy Doris a while to realize what was going on, but the sisters soon made plans to claim their prize together at the Lottery’s St. Louis office.
“At first, I thought we’d won the whole $898,000,” Brown shared. “But, hey, I can deal with $898,000 shared!”
She and her sister will share the $898,000 jackpot with Floyd Cox Jr. of Perryville, who claimed the other winning ticket from the Oct. 4 drawing. The winning numbers were: 5, 8, 23, 32 and 38.
The sisters’ ticket, purchased at Point Liquor and Drive Thru, 799 Ste. Genevieve Dr. in Ste. Genevieve, was the 216th jackpot-winning ticket since Show Me Cash began in 2008.
Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and continues to grow by at least $5,000 at each drawing until someone wins it.
