Jane Hansel of St. Clair began her workday with some extra cash in her pocket, thanks to winning a $20,000 Missouri Lottery prize in early October.

“I always stop off on my way to work and pick up the paper and a couple of Lottery tickets,” Hansel explained, referring to the “$750,000 Taxes Paid” Scratchers ticket she purchased at The Ranch House, 230 W. Gravois, in St. Clair.

“I hardly ever buy the game that I won on,” she noted. “I decided the night before that I was going to buy a $10 ticket.”

After Hansel uncovered the prize while sitting in the parking lot, she raced into her workplace to ask fellow co-workers for confirmation. The first-time Lottery winner admitted to being distracted the rest of her shift.

“I told him (boss), ‘You know, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to get my drawer to balance today,’” she recalled, adding that her boss teased her by replying, “That’s okay. We know you have money.”

Plans for the windfall include purchasing a new furnace and air conditioner.

As for advice for fellow Lottery players, Hansel said, “Just don’t give up hope!”

“I never dreamed this would happen, and it did,” she added. “Just have faith you could win. You’re not going to win if you don’t buy.”

$750,000 Taxes Paid,” a $10 game with a top prize of $750,000 taxes paid, officially started on May 26. To date, two top prize and thousands of prizes ranging from $10 to $20,000 remain in play.
