When Karen Walsh’s husband called to let her know he’d be late on Oct. 3, she had more notable news to share. The Millstadt, Ill., woman had just uncovered a $100,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery “$1,000,000 Payout” Scratchers game.

“He thought I was joking,” she shared, while claiming her prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis office the next day. Laughing, she added that that her husband “still doesn’t think it’s real. I have to call him after I leave here.”

With paperwork finished and reality setting in, Walsh, 46, said she plans to put some of her winnings away for her daughter’s college education.

“There are also some things around the house I’d like to do,” she said.

$1,000,000 Payout” officially started Jan. 10. The $10 game offers a top prize of $1 million, as well as thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $100,000. Walsh, who purchased her winning ticket at QuikTrip, 4435 Telegraph Road in St. Louis, claimed the seventh of the game’s 16 available $100,000 prizes.

Remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be tracked at Molottery.com.
