A Fordland woman making a routine stop on her way to Springfield lucked out when she purchased a $1 Quick Pick ticket for the Aug. 31 Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash drawing. Brenda Archer, 49, bought the ticket at Bill’s Quick Mart, 20 Glendale Drive in Rogersville, and later learned it was the sole winning ticket for the game’s $475,000 jackpot prize.
Bill’s Quick Mart is a convenient pit stop for Archer when she travels for work, but there was nothing humdrum about her return visit to the store the day following the drawing. Still unaware she had won, the clerks at the store knew they had sold the winning ticket to someone and urged her to check her own ticket.
“They said, ‘Oh, you’ve just got to be the winner,’” she recounted with a laugh. “I thought it was a joke, and I made them pull it up on the machine. Then I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’ve been to Springfield and everywhere else with $475,000 in my pocket, and I didn’t even know it!’”
Archer then secured a spot for her ticket in her safe deposit box and made plans to claim her prize at the Lottery’s Springfield office the next week.
“I’ve already talked to my financial man,” she answered, when asked about future plans for her winnings. “It’s going into retirement and a new vehicle.”
Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases by at least $5,000 at each daily drawing. Players select a set of five numbers between 1 and 39 or use the Quick Pick feature to allow the computer to randomly choose the numbers for them.
Archer’s ticket was the 214th Show Me Cash jackpot-winning ticket sold since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008.
