Scott and Marisa Austin couldn’t be happier to be in Missouri, and they were even more thrilled after Marisa uncovered a $20,000 Missouri Lottery prize. The Austins relocated to Missouri last year from New York, where life was “too expensive.”
“Everything is much better here,” explained Marisa. “We love the lake, we have good jobs, our kids have a great school, even the weather is better. We couldn’t be happier to be here.”
The couple has $20,000 more reasons to like the state. Marisa bought a winning “MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket on Sept. 13 at Jiffy Stop, 3360 Bagnell Dam Blvd., in Lake Ozark.
“I’ll buy the $2 scratch-offs, and I usually save them until I’m a couple of dollars ahead and buy more with that,” she related. “So, I had some tickets, and that’s the only reason I bought the $5 one (ticket). If there are new tickets out, I’ll get the new tickets.”
Marisa added that the new “MONOPOLY” ticket caught her eye on the way home from her job as a medical coder at Lake Regional Hospital.
“I got a snack and traded my tickets in for something to do before I went to bed,” she said.
She uncovered the $20,000 prize at home and called her husband, Scott, who works at the Jefferson City Correctional Center. As far as plans for the windfall, Marisa was certain.
“I am paying my bills. All of my ‘yesterdays’ are going to get paid,” she declared.
“You know, all the bills that you have from before that you never really get to pay, because you’re paying for today and tomorrow,” she explained.
It won’t be all business. When asked if the parents of four would spend a little on themselves, Scott had a suggestion.
“Maybe pay a babysitter,” he joked.
“MONOPOLY” is a $5 game that officially began Sept. 10.
