KANSAS CITY WOMAN WINS $50,000 TAX PAID

Leslie Guess, 44, of Kansas City received a surprise in her paper on June 29. In it, she discovered she had won the SHOW ME 5 Paydown top prize of $50,000 tax paid* in the June 28 drawing. Guess said she checked the numbers several times before she believed she had won. A camping goods sales associate, Guess had stopped at Berbiglia, 9105 E. 350 Highway in Raytown, with a list of things to buy, including peanuts, pop and, of course, Missouri Lottery tickets. She let the computer choose her six winning numbers. They were: 1, 7, 28, 38 and 39. Guess has not yet decided what she will do with her prize money. *The Missouri Lottery will pay 28 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $73,529.41. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
