Mexico Teen Pockets $5,000 Lottery Prize
Taylor Mills of Mexico said that seeing customers win the Missouri Lottery might have inspired her to play more and eventually end up with her own $5,000 winning ticket. The 19-year-old employee of Break Time bought a “Smokin’ Hot Cash” Scratchers ticket at Casey’s General Store, 1845 W. Blvd. in Mexico, on Sept. 6. After discovering her good fortune, she wasted no time beating it to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to claim her prize.
“I don’t buy them from work,” explained Mills. “I go to the other Break Time, but I don’t usually win there, so I just normally go to Casey’s. I actually took it back in there and said, ‘Does this really say $5,000 on it?’ I thought I was going to pee my pants!”
Mills said she normally buys $1 Scratchers.
“This is only the second $5 ticket I have ever bought,” she declared. “I’ll spend $5 on five $1 tickets, but I normally don’t buy a $5 ticket. It’s exciting.”
She said that she has won smaller amounts, including $100 twice. She had stopped playing until she noticed winners coming back into her store.
“Now I work, and I see all of these people coming back in with winners,” she related. “I’m like, ‘Well, I’m going to start buying them again.’ I’ve had a lot of luck.”
Mills said some of the money would be used to make her child’s first birthday extra special, but that she would save at least half.
“I’m going to buy necessary things, spend some money on her birthday and put the rest up,” said Mills.
The win was definitely the highlight of her day.
“When you’re having a bad day, go buy a Lottery ticket,” she suggested.
