Maryland Heights Man Wins $463,000 Show Me Cash Jackpot
Another St. Louis QuikTrip location has sold a winning Missouri Lottery jackpot ticket. Donald Matthews of Maryland Heights claimed the $463,000 Show Me Cash jackpot from July 25. Matthews, 60, bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at QuikTrip, 8583 St. Charles Rock Road, in St. Louis.
“I play quite often, actually,” began Matthews. “I play Show Me Cash pretty much several times a week. The odds of winning, even the small prizes, are better.”
Matthews, the public safety manager at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, said he plays Powerball and Mega Millions when the jackpot gets big, but he rarely misses a chance to play his numbers on the state game.
“Strangely enough, they were Quick Picks,” he explained. “I used to have cards (playslips) that I used, but I started playing $5 a day and just using Quick Picks.”
He said the third play on the ticket was the winning combination. The Show Me Cash numbers drawn on July 25 were: 1, 20, 21, 25 and 31.
Matthews said his girlfriend, who also plays Show Me Cash, told him the day after the drawing that a winning ticket had been sold in St. Louis. He checked his numbers on Molottery.com and called his daughter with the news.
“I called my daughter as soon as I checked the numbers yesterday morning, and she called my son. I was so out of breath that I had to sit back and relax for a minute,” he recalled.
“At work yesterday, I was walking around, literally, about to burst, because I wanted to tell people, but I didn’t want to tell people. I had meetings to go to, and I couldn’t concentrate. I’m a little better today. Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” he admitted.
Plans for the windfall include paying off student loans and replacing a hail-damaged vehicle.
“One of the things I told myself yesterday was to relax and get over the excitement so that I can think rationally,” said Matthews.
He was thankful for hitting the Show Me Cash jackpot and said he would continue to play the game.
“The only advice I would have is obviously, play responsibly, but play continuously,” he suggested. “I think that if you find a game that you like, that you should continue to play that game.”
Show Me Cash
is a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins. Matthews won the 208th Show Me Cash jackpot since the game began in 2008. Of those 208 winning jackpot tickets, 18 were sold at QuikTrip locations, 11 of which are in the St. Louis area.
