Hermann Woman Bags $1 Million Prize at Grocery Store
It’s a day early, but a Hermann woman is already seeing fireworks. Rose Tredway, 55, is kicking off her Fourth of July festivities $1 million richer after uncovering a top prize on a Missouri Lottery “$1,000,000 Payout” Scratchers ticket.
Tredway said she decided to purchase the ticket while grocery shopping with her husband Paul at The Village Market, 2092 Village Lane in Hermann, on July 1. During the drive home, Rose began to scratch off the ticket, noting her expectations were low.
“I told Paul, ‘I don’t think we won anything,’” Rose revealed, adding that she changed her tune once she scratched off the entire ticket.
After the initial shock subsided, the pair drove to their home, where they asked friends and family to look at the ticket for confirmation.
Rose admitted that she and Paul had a “restless” night, joking that they were literally sleeping on $1 million. For safekeeping, the couple kept the winning ticket “under the mattress.”
Paul said it was a “welcome relief” when they claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City the following morning.
In addition to using the windfall to make their final home mortgage payment, they plan to put their 18-year-old through college and purchase a new vehicle.
“$1,000,000 Payout” is a $10 game with a top prize of $1 million that officially started on Jan. 10.
